WINTER
TRACES (2006)
solo piano, 7 min.
The first piece in this set of three miniatures
for solo piano was commissioned by the Ravinia Festival
in 2006 as
part of its “One Score, One Chicago” project.
Each year the festival chooses a musical work as
a touchstone for community discussion. Schumann’s Kinderszenen inspired the commission of New Scenes from Childhood from
eleven prominent composers, including Frazelle.
The composer chose to expand
his reflection
on Schumann into a group of sparse, delicately
textured pieces.
They are dedicated to Frazelle’s friend
Lana Young
in celebration of her fortieth birthday. |
